Your mission

The Sr. Project Engineer - Ready to Assemble Furniture will be responsible for overseeing the engineering and technical aspects of the RTA furniture projects from conception to completion. 

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the identification of new ideas, products, and features that improve customer satisfaction, reduce costs, and keep our product line at the forefront of our industry.
  • Strategize and oversee the conceptualization of new ideas and technologies for our next generation of products.
  • Define and maintain product requirements and verification plans to meet regulatory and internal standards.
  • Evaluate and test product prototypes or CAD for concept feasibility, user needs, and regulatory concerns.
  • Assess product samples for strength, stability, safety, usability, etc.
  • Identify system-level interactions and potential failure modes.
  • Review test reports for accuracy and completeness to design verification plans.
  • Communicate ideas quickly and effectively using a combination of sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models, and working prototypes.
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing and Industrial Design teams to ensure a cohesive approach to the design of our products.
  • Drive and manage outsourced product development with global teams.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Manage project timelines and resources to ensure timely and successful product launches.
  • Aid in the development and maintenance of regulatory and safety warnings and product protocols internally and at third-party testing labs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews to identify gaps in product requirements for product safety and reliability.
  • Create requirements as a result of analyzing and interpreting related product testing data from various sources including our Asia Sourcing Organization, CPSC Saferproducts.gov, NEISS Database, online reviews, etc.
  • Learn industry regulations and standards for various product lines and become familiar with industry-standard materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure regulatory and internal risk reduction requirements are created and communicated for new products and support other functions such as Marketing, Product Development, Sales, Customer Care, and Legal.
  • Define wording and location of product warnings on Products, Packaging, and Instruction Manuals.
  • Work collaboratively with the product development team in Asia to ensure that needed product testing and requirements are executed and maintained in accordance with business timelines.
  • Communicate technical requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Drive solutions which ensure compliance with consumer product regulations.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain key metrics to evaluate performance and build implementation plans to confirm our performance and compliance against the program.

Your profile

•    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
•    7+ years experience in project engineering, preferably in the furniture or consumer goods industry.
•    Strong knowledge of RTA furniture design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
•    Experience in a regulated industry and standards (i.e., ASTM, ISO, CPSC, BIFMA).
•    Previous experience performing risk analyses (User Risk and/or FMEA).
•    Advanced knowledge of 6 Sigma (application of DOE, COV, Variability charts, etc.).
•    Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and other engineering tools.
•    Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
•    Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
•    Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
