Your mission

We are looking for a Design Engineer to help us create a new generation of innovative products in the highly regulated Juvenile Consumer Products and Ready-to-Assemble (RTA) Furniture industries for the North American market. This position involves developing and validating products from conception through design, sourcing, testing, and production to ensure they meet applicable regulations and performance requirements. As part of the Product Engineering team, you will contribute technical expertise and creativity to our engineering efforts and support our ambitious product roadmap.


This role may also involve supporting product improvement projects in non-car seat (CRS) categories, as well as RTA furniture. Travel within North America and occasional visits to Asia are required.

This is a hybrid position and will work onsite 3 days a week in Foxboro, MA.

Key responsibilities

•    Research new technological opportunities for innovation and market expansion.
•    Participate in product development projects, including design and testing.
•    Ensure products meet design, marketing, quality, compliance, and safety requirements.
•    Conduct benchmarking and GAP analysis of competitor products.
•    Understand system interactions and failure modes; participate in design reviews.
•    Assist in detailed design of components and sub-assemblies.
•    Manage technical specifications and product definitions.
•    Develop measurement systems for internal product requirements.
•    Integrate consumer feedback into product development.
•    Develop and manage Design Validation Plans (DVP).
•    Communicate ideas using sketches, CAD, 3D models, and prototypes.
•    Troubleshoot test failures and provide design change guidance.
•    Evaluate product samples and provide feedback to global teams.
•    Support test fixture design and prototype creation.
•    Evaluate product packaging and instruction manuals.
•    Participate in VA/VE activities to enhance product function and profitability.
•    Continuously improve designs for cost-effectiveness and reliability.
•    Develop new test methods with the lab test team.
•    Provide technical support to the Customer Care team.
•    Ensure regulatory and internal risk reduction requirements are created and communicated for new products, supporting other functions such as Marketing, Product Development, Sales, Customer Care, and Legal.
•    Define wording and location of product warnings on products, packaging, and instruction manuals.
•    Work collaboratively with the product development team in Asia to ensure product testing and requirements are executed and maintained according to business timelines.
•    Communicate technical requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring compliance with consumer product regulations.
•    Identify, develop, and maintain key metrics to evaluate performance and build implementation plans to confirm performance and compliance against the program.

 

Your profile

•    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. A Master's degree in Engineering/Technology is a plus.
•    Advanced knowledge of 6 Sigma (application of DOE, COV, Variability charts, etc.).
•    Six Sigma Belt Certified and proof of application preferred.
•    Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in a mechanical design engineering environment, preferably within the Consumer Goods or Furniture Industry.
•    Knowledge in wood and plastic injection molded components design. Experience in sheet metal stampings is a plus.
•    Proficient in design tools including DFMEA, GD&T, Tolerance Stack up.
•    Knowledge of related ASTM/ANSI/BFMA standards that pertain to nursery and juvenile consumer products is desired.
•    Strong communication skills and comfortable working in cross-functional teams, including globally.
•    Structured approach to creative problem-solving using A3s, 8Ds, etc.
•    Experience with 3D design using CAD platforms, SolidWorks preferred.
•    Microsoft Office skills required, experience with Excel VBA coding is a plus.
•    Basic manual tool skills required, machine tool (lathe and mill) experience is a plus.
