Your mission
We are looking for a CAD Engineer to help us create a new generation of innovative products across our highly regulated Juvenile Consumer Products industry for the North American market focusing on child restraint seats (CRS). This position will be supporting development and validation of products from conception through design and production to ensure products meet applicable Regulations and performance requirements. Working as part of the Engineering team, you will bring credible design solutions using Computer Aided Design tools and manage complex designs. Design primarily involves working on injection molded plastic components and designing for manufacturability. In addition to CRS new development, this position may also help supporting misc. juvenile product projects both on the CRS and non-CRS category.

Key responsibilities
• Work closely with Engineers to design and package a variety of components ranging related to CRS (Child Restraint System). This typically includes molded plastic and foam parts, harness assembly, mechanisms, etc.
• Drive 2D and 3D creation for new product development projects in design engineering, drawing specifications, tolerance norms, etc.
• Rapid iterations from concept through preliminary design and continuous optimization
• Manage and /or support design reviews (includes taking minutes, managing CAD, follow-ups, etc.)
• Support design iterations, prototyping and testing efforts for different products
• Produce and manage CAD assemblies in the file vault (PDM)
• Regularly represent the department in design reviews and work closely with other departments and suppliers
• Support product design engineering and quality engineering to ensure all developed and sourced products meet design goals, marketing objectives, and quality, compliance and safety requirements
• Detailed design of components and sub-assemblies by material selection, dimensions and tolerances to meet product specifications and manufacturing feasibility through technical analysis including DFMEA, Tolerance Analysis, FEA and DFM/DFA
• Generate and manage drawings and 3D CAD, bill of materials (BOM), technical data/product definitions and functional descriptions
• Understand and interpret Regulatory and Compliance standard and their applicability to Dorel products.
• Support benchmarking and GAP analysis of competitor samples and incorporate competitive solutions into product designs
• Support design standard(s) creation
• Drive and participate in VA/VE activities during and post-development to increase profitability and enhance product function
• Communicate ideas quickly and effectively using a combination of sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models and working prototypes to evaluate potential solutions.
• Ability to manage multitask daily activities with low supervision (self-driven).
Your profile
• Associate Degree in Engineering/Technical field (Bachelor's preferred)
• Advanced surfacing knowledge will be an advantage
• SolidWorks Certification will be a big plus
• Solid fundamental knowledge of molded plastic parts production technologies and materials; casting, forging, machining, pressing, sheet metal, injection molding, extrusion, welding, stamping, rolling of aluminum, steel, magnesium & polymers.
• Solid fundamental knowledge and proven experience working on chassis related projects.
• Experienced user of CAD (ideally CATIA V5/V6) in solid and surface modelling.
• Quick turn over of work
• Ability to produce clear and thorough reports
• CAE experience beneficial but not essential
• Candidates should be self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
• Excellent communication skills, able to interact effectively with domestic and international teammates & suppliers.
• Must be a self starter, use initiative and engineering judgement.
• Ability to interpret data and solve complex problems using first principles.
• High Degree of competence with GD&T
• Must have ability to manage multiple component designs at once and able to prioritize workload.
