Your mission

Dorel Juvenile is looking for a Contract Soft Goods Designer to join the team at our Design and Development Center in Foxboro, MA for a 6 month contract. The Designer will be responsible for developing Soft Goods designs for a variety of juvenile products, including car seats and strollers.

This position does not support immigration sponsorship. 

Key responsibilities

The Designer must have a hands-on approach with strong visual communication through sketching and 3-Dimensional development including sample sewing. They will have strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and presentation skills with a proven ability to work well with cross-functional teams. Key interfaces are with Fashion, Soft Goods Engineering, Industrial Design, Marketing and Project Management. Must be able to multi-task well and work in a fast-paced environment with demanding deadlines.

  • researching market competitors and trends within all relevant and parallel industries
  • creating initial concept sketches
  • using 2D and 3D skills to create initial patterns and white samples
  • developing 2D and 3D presentation materials
  • submitting feedback for sample revisions to meet final approved standards
  • partnering with domestic and international teams to create and refine patterns and construction specifications from initial sewing samples through to final production.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in related design discipline and experience designing and creating innovative products.
  • Ability to create and evaluate 2D concept drawings and convert into 3D models.
  • Technical sewing skills for constructing soft goods for mechanized products.
  • Pattern drafting skills to generate prototype sewing patterns, as well as final manufacturing production patterns.
  • Experience with industrial sewing techniques and soft goods manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of textile types and manufacturing processes, from raw fibers to finished goods.
  • Strong aesthetic sense, with ability to evaluate and make material/quality recommendations.
  • Self-motivation, excellent communication and follow up skills a must
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Experience with Solidworks a plus.
