The HR Specialist will provide employee support including recruiting, benefit administration, HRIS maintenance and on-boarding/off-boarding. This role is customer service focused and will also have administrative responsibilities within the HR department including invoice review, employee file maintenance, reporting, and HR related compliance training and tracking. Successful individuals will be comfortable interacting with all levels of the organization and possess proactive problem-solving skills to continuously improve the employee experience. This role is required to be on-site in Columbus, IN.

The HR Specialist work with all employees across locations, support other members of the HR team and must possess a high level of integrity, energy, organization and professionalism. The HR Specialist is a proactive problem solver, action-oriented individual who strives to align employees with the company's mission, vision and values.

Key responsibilities

  • Help develop a thriving Dorel Juvenile culture by cultivating positive relations with team members at all organizational levels.
  • Act as main point of contact for local employees with respect to workplace questions or concerns.
  • Advise managers and supervisors on regulations, policies, HR practices, and services and programs offered by the Company.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment standards and reporting requirements.
  • Support HR and Benefit Administration through processing of HRIS changes including 401k, attendance and leave records, health and welfare enrollment, tuition reimbursement, service awards, claim resolution, invoice reconciliation, and monthly reporting.
  • Identify and implement HR process improvements.
  • Maintain company employee data according to Federal and State guidelines – personnel files, organization charts, HRIS, and time & attendance.  Provide ad hoc reports.
  • Supports coordination of employee training and events.
  • Displays a high degree of integrity and honesty, exercises confidentiality and neutrality in complex and sensitive situations.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Your profile

  • High school diploma/GED required. Two year's post-secondary education highly preferred.
  • Minimum one year prior experience in Human Resources role or two years managerial role with Human Resources responsibilities.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification preferred.
  • Spanish/English bilingual skills desirable.
  • Highly organized, detail and process oriented.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment; comfortable working with some ambiguity.
  • Collaborative, with a strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility and partner with others.
  • Excellent communications skills (oral and written) and developed interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills (problem assessment, solution generation).
  • Must have working knowledge of human resource fundamentals including hiring practices, employment law, leave administration, benefit administration, worker’s compensation etc.
  • Prior experience with ADP Workforce Now and ADP Workforce Manager highly preferred.
  • Advanced MS Office suite skills
  • Strong desire to improve job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
